Trump’s First Speech to Congress: “Pass an Education Bill that Funds School Choice”

Written by Dr. David Holbrook | March 3, 2017

On Tuesday, February 28th, President Donald Trump gave his first speech to Congress. The lengthy speech included a brief mention of education. He called education “the Civil Rights issue of our time” and asked Congress to pass a bill to fund school choice.

No details regarding the school choice bill were provided, but the request shows the continued emphasis of this administration on the school choice issue. The call for a school choice bill has raised the question of where the funding for a school choice bill will come from because the Trump administrations budget proposal calls for an increase in spending on the military with cuts to the area of funding of which education is a part.
