Private sector entities rarely share what best practices they have employed to attain a competitive advantage. This is exactly the opposite of my experience in K12. Superintendents, administrators, educators want to share best practices so others can gain those advantages.  

But a common question comes up when I discuss why a district should compare their performance to another district’s performance, “Why should I compare to another district when I track my progress regularly?”

Benchmarking your performance to others can have a big impact on your decisions. Here are the top three reasons to benchmark your district’s performance:
