Press Release: South Carolina Department of Education Partners with ActPoint KPI for Food Services Management with Software

The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) and TransACT Communications are announcing a partnership with South Carolina School Food Authorities (SFA’s) and ActPoint®  KPI, a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) analytics system to help manage high quality food services programs.

ActPoint KPI is a software service that was developed in conjunction with the Council of Great City Schools which allows educational agencies to visualize school business and operations performance data. The software provides year-over-year performance reporting, the ability to benchmark operational performance against peer districts, and an online community to discuss performance improvements and best practices using a set of nationally recognized, standardized key performance indicators.

South Carolina is the first state Department of Education to implement a process of Key Performance Indicator measurement and analysis for food service departments across the state using ActPoint KPI. Providing this resource helps SCDE and their SFAs strategically think about how to improve processes and impact student achievement with their nutritional programs.

“Providing a way to visualize areas for potential improvement in food service operations is an important step in enhancing management effectiveness,” says Virgie Chambers, Deputy Superintendent for the Division of Operations and Support at SCDE. Molly Spearman, South Carolina Superintendent of Education noted, “This KPI management tool is a part of the support we provide our public school districts, charter schools, parochial schools, and other educational and child care entities.”

Performance reports and peer benchmarking for Food Services Key Performance Indicators is now available to SFAs throughout the state of South Carolina in preparation for the 2018-2019 school year. The KPIs include but are not limited to:

  • Meal Participation Rates
  • Food Cost
  • Labor Cost
  • Total Cost as a Percent of Revenue

ActPoint KPI and SCDE will provide SFAs with professional development and training including live help, telephone support, and webinar trainings. For additional information please contact Ron Jones at rfjones@ed.sc.gov or call (803) 734-8186.
