Private School Consultation and Tribal Consultation Notices Updated

In response to guidance released by the U.S. Department of Education (USED), TransACT has updated documents in its ESSA ParentNotices Collection in two content categories:

  • Private School Consultation
  • Tribal Consultation

The updates include adding Title IV, Part F (Project SERV) to the list of federal programs to include in consultation with representatives from Private Schools and Tribes or Tribal Organizations.

Project SERV (School Emergency Response to Violence program) is a grant program that provides funds directly to local education agencies (LEAs) from the U.S. Department of Education (USED). Project SERV grants fund educated-related services for local education agencies to help them recover from a violent or traumatic event in which there is a disruption in the learning environment. As with all other federal grant programs listed, LEAs are only required to include in consultation those grants for which they receive funding.

Guidance from USED about the Consultation Meeting Invitation

Another improvement in the consultation invitation is the inclusion of a paragraph for when Private School officials or representatives from Tribes or Tribal Organizations don’t respond to the meeting invitation.

Guidance from USED indicates that if there is no response to a consultation meeting invitation, then the Private School, Tribe, or Tribal Organization will be considered to have declined services unless they provide a good cause for the non-responsiveness.
